Mill-Pro supplies pipe and fittings for stormwater drainage installation in Stubbs Road, Hong Kong
Thursday, April 6, 2017
The developer Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited sub contracted the drainage work to Chun Lee Engineering Co Ltd to install a DN 700 (800 OD) PE stormwater connection from the site to a street manhole and into a DSD culvert in Stubbs road under an entrustment project for HK Drainage Services Department (DSD).
Mill-Pro supplied 800mm OD SDR 17 / SN 24 (SN is ring stiffness) M90ES CCTV pipe with a green stripe to identify the pipe in ground as stormwater. The pipes were supplied to site with factory fitted DSD ‘Type B’ rigid manhole connectors. The manhole connectors are fitted with hydrophilic expanding seal rings which swell up in the concrete as the cement cures, sealing the joint watertight at manhole penetration.
SN 24 pipe requires no concrete encasement and is designed to function in burial depths from 600mm cover (min) to 4m cover without any side support in the trench. Concrete encasement is not recommended in BS EN 9295 as it can be detrimental to the performance of flexible pipe materials making them into a rigid pipe. Click here for detail on why PE pipes do not need to be encased in concrete.
The benefit of using PE in such an application is the light weight of the pipe allowed it to be installed and maneuvererd by hand into a very tight location, 6m lengths of PE are 4x the length of traditional concrete pipes and no need to encase the installed PE pipe in concrete saving time & cost.
This project used the following Mill-Pro products:
– OD 800 M90ES CCTV pipe with orange CCTV inspection layer and green stripes indicating stormwater use
– OD 800 DSD Type B manhole connectors (factory fitted)
– OD 800 Friatec electrofusion couplers
– Friamat electrofusion machine
– Friatool mechanical peeler
