27 January 2015, Mill-Pro takes over the supply contract for pre-fabricated structural steel for Hawkins Infrastructure and Pacific Building Solutions for the Nadi international airport modernisation project.
With our exclusive partner Matsuo, we recreated the shop drawings and commenced steel procurement and fabrication of ~700mt of coated architectural steel including curved roof beams and Bifurcated Y columns making up the main check-in structure.
Mill-Pro and Matsuo have a long-term partnership, supplying thousands of tonnes of fabricated structural steel over many years to multinational clients. We have well developed processes which are fully integrated with recognised ILAC approved third parties
The structural Engineers, Airports Fiji and Hawkins all had the usual concerns regarding sourcing steel fabrication from China. They visited Matsuo and Mill-Pro to audit the processes, people and extract random samples to perform their own qualification on.

Due to the complexity of the curved roof sections and necessity that every piece joins together without modification, two-dimensional trial assembly was conducted pre-coating. Joints are bolted up and checked against a grid using laser to ensure the every joint (bolted or welded) would connect perfectly on site.
To facilitate shipping the bifurcated columns were supplied with bolted joints and weld prepared closing plates to give the final appearance of a single Y piece. Weld areas are masked out to minimise the site touch up required post welding.
Items are packed with protective packaging on skids to ensure every piece of steel is delivered undamaged to site. Unique Mill-Pro QR stickers contain information about each part, drawing references and its location
Mill-Pro supplied Hawkins some 8000 pieces of fabricated & coated steel for Nadi Airport that bolted together perfectly matching the 3D model and shop drawings.
