Mill-Pro was awarded the pipe supply contract by Solo Plastics for the replacement of the existing 300m long 1000/900mm diameter fibreglass diffuser with a 900mm OD PE diffuser at the Hastings WWTP at East Clive, New Zealand.
This long outfall was commissioned in 1981 and extends approximately 3,000 metres off shore and has a capacity of approximately 2,400 l/s at a 16m head. The current outfall includes a steel manifold, a concrete pipeline and a fiberglass diffuser.
Significant repairs have been carried out to the diffuser since the original construction, including replacement sections of pipe and repairs to scour holes under the diffuser. Due to concerns of the current pipe condition a replacement diffuser is required.
Mill-Pro is supplying over 300 meters of Mill-Pro M100 SDR21 PE100 pipe and over 120 side fusion butt weld flanged saddles and duckbill valves for this New Zealand Diving and Salvage Ltd project.
The Mill-Pro DN900 pipe was made by our pipe partner, TAP, Thai Asia PE Pipe of Thailand. TAP was established in 1984 and was a global pioneer in Polyethylene pipe, establishing a 1600 OD pipe extrusion line as early as 1996. TAP has a 248,000m2 world class manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 40,000mt. They manufacture a full range of polyethylene pressure pipe from 20-2000mm OD along with matching fabricated and machined fittings.
The diffuser will be constructed on shore and then installed using a float and sink method. The new diffuser section is due to be operational in early 2017.
